I think musicals such as Sound Of Music, Wizard Of Oz, West Side Story, Singin' In The Rain, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Grease, Mary Poppins, and a couple of the great Disney Films should all be up there. However, there is one musical that every time it comes on a given station I can't seem to turn it off-and end up watching it all the way through--Seven Brides For Seven Brothers: Starring Howard Keel and Jane Powell. I don't know if it's the combination of humor and those memorable fighting scenes, but to me this is just a tremendous entertainment-with some great dance sequences, as well.

Good day all!

To commence, there are so many great unforgettable musical movies; however I rate the top 12 in no particular order
1. Singing in the rain. 2. The sound of music 3. What's love got to do with it 4.Ray 5.August Rush 6. The King and I 7. Dream Girls
8. Evita 9. Take the lead 10. Dirty Dancing 11. Saturday night fever 12. Save the last dance. I consider Prince of Egypt and Lion King (Disney animation)

Oh, absolutely. Good stage managers are worth their weight in platinum and can really shine at techs. As long as the performers are mature enough (regardless of age!) to accept that cutting to the end of their scene or song is no reflection on them, but simply what needs to be done to keep the tech going, things can run so much more smoothly.

Tech nights are when you find out how good your stage manager is - the best one I ever had (ie it finished before midnight!) was an SM who very efficiently went from one change to the next - so if a singer was just singing a song with not special lighting or effects, then she didn't bother running through the whole song. Her confidence and control gave the whole cast a good feeling. Meanwhile, my son heads off to Central in London this week to start his degree in Theatre Sound! So bless the techies :-)

Correct me if I'm wrong - but doesnt that woman with the tipped-down sunglasses in the poster remind me of something? Another (professional) show? Possibly from the West End?

It is a bit of a performing arts, fairytale, yes, complete with warnings about doing the wrong thing (at least in the stage version, I can't really remember the film all that well). Interesting, the stage show's finale, Bring on Tomorrow, includes lyrics that are reminiscent of Peter Pan:

Long, long ago, in a world we never made,
We were children who were making believe.
Closing our, eyes, we were travellers in air
To a land we did not want to leave.
But this fairytale land goes away as we grow,
And we all have to say our goodbyes...

It makes me think of the Darlings leaving Neverland, returning to a sensible life of growing up, having shadows that never detach themselves and being very unlikely to encounter pirates.
